چکیده

We have investigated the F0V star V398Aurigae (= 9 Aur) under the assumption that it is undergoing non-radial gravity mode oscillations and that the two principal periods given by Krisciunas et al. (1995) are correct. We find that the two periods are manifestations of an l = 3, |m| = 1 spheroidal mode and its toroidal corrections due to the rotation of the star. As far as we know, this is the first detection of toroidal correction terms in a real star. The two modes probably are the result of rotational splitting. Our analysis provides for the first time a physical explanation of certain characteristics of the observed behavior of the star. The amplitude of the radial part of the pulsation for f1 = 0.795d −1 is a factor of 4 larger than the one for f2 = 0.346d . Since the photometric variability is determined mostly by temperature variations, which in turn are determined by the radial part of the pulsation, the photometric variability is dominated by the mode with frequency f1. On the other hand, f2 is the more pronounced one in all three spectroscopic moment variations (including the radial velocity), reflecting that the transverse displacement of f2, and not the one of f1, dominates the velocity behavior.

Spectroscopic mode identification for the slowly pulsating B star HD 147394

We present ground-based high-resolution high S/N spectra of the slowly pulsating B star HD 147394. Two frequencies are clearly found in the moments of the Si II 4128-4130 doublet: f1 = 0.8008 c d−1 and f2 = 0.7813 c d−1. The frequency f1 is also found in the HIPPARCOS data. A third frequency is also present in our spectroscopic data: f3 = 0.7175 c d−1 or its aliases due to the time sampling. A ...

HD 42927 and HD 126341 : two pulsating B stars surrounded by circumstellar dust ?

We have performed an infrared study of pulsating B stars. The main conclusion is that none of the 163 (non-)radial pulsators shows an IR excess flux due to free-free emission, despite the fact that the sample contains several rapid rotators. Two β Cep stars and two slowly pulsating B stars do exhibit an unexpected infrared colour excess at 12 μm. The small IR excess of the B 2 IV β Cep star HD ...

Probing the Internal Magnetic Field of Slowly Pulsating B-stars through G Modes

We suggest that high-order g modes can be used as a probe of the internal magnetic field of SPB (slowly pulsating B) stars. The idea is based on earlier work by the authors hich analytically investigated the effect of a vertical magnetic field on p and g modes in a plane-parallel isothermal stratified atmosphere. It was found that even a weak field can significantly shift the gmode frequencies ...

A Quantitative Analysis of the Available Multicolor Photometry for Rapidly Pulsating Hot B Subdwarfs

We present a quantitative and homogeneous analysis of the broadband multi-color photometric data sets gathered so far on rapidly pulsating hot B subdwarf stars. This concerns seven distinct data sets related to six different stars. Our analysis is carried out within the theoretical framework developed by Randall et al., which includes full nonadiabatic effects. The goal of this analysis is part...

Mode identification for Balloon 090100001 using combined multicolour photometry and spectroscopy

In this paper, we show that method of mode identification using combined multicolour photometry and spectroscopy can be successfully applied to the pulsating subdwarf B star Balloon 090100001. The method constrains the spherical degree, l.We confirm that the dominant mode is radial and we show that for some other modes the method provides values of l consistent with the observed rotationally sp...
